The ones with "sensitive skin" on the label. The ones that promised no irritation, no fragrance, no problem. And your skin told you otherwise: the itching, the tightening, the flare-up you couldn't explain.
Here's why: "sensitive skin formula" is a marketing claim, not an ingredient list. Most drugstore soaps marketed to sensitive skin still contain sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS), synthetic fragrance compounds, and artificial dyes. These are among the most common triggers for eczema, contact dermatitis, and chronic dryness. "Unscented" isn't the same as fragrance-free. "Gentle formula" isn't the same as a simple one.
The only way to know what's in your soap is to read the ingredient list. And the only way to be certain nothing harmful is hiding in it is for the list to be very, very short.
This Is the Whole Label.
Not the short version. Not a highlights list. This is every ingredient in No. 3 Bar Soap, in its entirety. There is nothing else to read, because there is nothing else in it.
No fillers. No preservatives. No hidden "fragrance" compounds. No asterisks.
If an ingredient isn't on this list, it isn't in your soap.
-
Saponified Avocado Oil
Rich in oleic acid, vitamins A, D, and E, and natural plant sterols. Exceptionally gentle and deeply moisturizing. Absorbs easily without clogging pores, ideal for inflamed or reactive skin.
-
Saponified Coconut Oil
Creates the firm bar and the rich, cleansing lather. Coconut oil's lauric acid provides natural antimicrobial properties while contributing to a thorough, non-stripping clean.
-
Saponified Olive Oil
The classic Castile soap base. High in oleic acid and squalene, compounds that closely mirror your skin's natural sebum. Soothes, conditions, and supports the skin barrier without disrupting it.
"Saponified" means the oil has been reacted with lye (sodium hydroxide) to produce soap. The lye is fully consumed in that reaction. Zero free lye in the finished bar. This is how all real soap is made.
The Bar
What's Not in It.

Questions We Actually Get Asked
Is No. 3 safe for eczema-prone skin?
No. 3 contains no synthetic fragrance, no SLS, and no artificial dyes. These are three of the most common chemical triggers for eczema flares. Its base oils (avocado, coconut, and olive) are well-tolerated by reactive skin and rich in fatty acids that support the skin barrier. As with any new product, patch test first, especially during an active flare.
What does "saponified" mean?
Saponified oil is oil that has been reacted with lye (sodium hydroxide) to produce soap, through a process called saponification. During the process, the lye is completely consumed and chemically transformed. The finished bar contains no free lye. Every traditional bar soap is made this way. If a product claims to be "lye-free soap," it's a detergent bar, not real soap.
Will it dry out my skin?
No. 3 is formulated to cleanse without stripping. Olive oil and avocado oil are both high in oleic acid, a fatty acid that closely mirrors the skin's own natural sebum. The saponification process also retains natural glycerin, a humectant that draws moisture to the skin. Most customers with chronic dryness notice a significant difference after the first few uses.
Why no "natural fragrance"? Isn't that safe?
The term "natural fragrance" is not regulated differently from "fragrance"; it can still contain dozens of undisclosed compounds, some of which are known contact allergens. Essential oils, while natural, are among the most common triggers for contact dermatitis. The only guarantee is no fragrance at all, which is what No. 3 delivers.
What does it smell like?
Neutral and clean: the mild, natural scent of the oils themselves. There is no added scent of any kind. Most customers describe it as barely noticeable, or simply "clean." It does not linger on skin after rinsing.
How long does each bar last?
With daily use on face and body, each 6.5 oz bar typically lasts 4 to 6 weeks. Keep it on a draining soap dish between uses. The faster it dries between washes, the longer it lasts. The 4-pack covers 4 to 6 months of daily use.
